One hand washes the other

Our hands connect us to the world. They’re an essential tool in our day-to-day lives. From texting to waving down a cab, our hands can get a lot done for us. We convey affection with a soothing touch or gentle hold. We shake hands to greet someone or close a business deal. You may express your feelings by talking with your hands (as I like to do) or clapping loudly at your child’s dance recital or soccer game. In connecting with the world, your hands, like your face, are usually front and centre. And there's always something extra special about...

Ground yourself

I’m certainly not a coffee connoisseur by any means but I do love a nice cup of coffee—typically in the morning after my breakfast. Along with the aromatic smell of a brewing pot, I enjoy the feeling of a warm mug in my hand while I sit alone on the front porch or in a comfy chair near the window, watching the world, in my own little world. It’s my carved out piece of time each morning to daydream, appreciate my surroundings, and ground myself for the day. It is a ritual of relaxation and rejuvenation. A lot of research...

For the love of lavender

Last week I drove home to Sarnia with my daughter and grandson to visit my parents for a few days. With about an hour left in our drive, we passed by a beautiful field of lavender that took my breath away.My daughter Brittany noticed my excitement. How wonderful it was to see a lavender field so close to home! Owned by a family of local farmers who grow and harvest their lavender to make a line of skincare products sold in their cute little store. As a fellow small business owner, I appreciate the work that goes into this.It is...

For me, memories of summer vacation revolve around strawberry picking. Fresh out of school for the summer holidays, our first trip would always be going back home to my parents, and the first activity on our to-do list was always strawberry picking. My girls loved it from when they were young—Brittany was even nicknamed “Brittany Berry” because she loved strawberries so much. She would sit amongst the rows and instead of putting them in the basket she would just eat them, freshly picked off the vine. An ironic fun fact: The first garden strawberry was actually grown in Brittany, France...

After our toes and feet have been in hibernation during the colder months, it’s time to get them out in the open air and ready for summer sandals. You can certainly get a professional pedicure, however I prefer to prep and pamper my feet myself. Below is my 6 step initial prep routine to start myself out on the “right foot.” Then I do a quick daily upkeep to keep my feet happy and presentable all summer long. Pre-prep tip: I always suggest removing all nail polish during the winter months to reduce the effects of yellowing nails and give...
