For the love of lavender

Back to Blog

Last week I drove home to Sarnia with my daughter and grandson to visit my parents for a few days. With about an hour left in our drive, we passed by a beautiful field of lavender that took my breath away.

My daughter Brittany noticed my excitement. How wonderful it was to see a lavender field so close to home! Owned by a family of local farmers who grow and harvest their lavender to make a line of skincare products sold in their cute little store. As a fellow small business owner, I appreciate the work that goes into this.

It is just so nice to see people living naturally.

Aside from its gorgeous colour and divine scent, lavender is one of my favourite flowers because it has a plethora of truly amazing skincare benefits. I use lavender flowers or essential oil in almost all of my products. It’s safe for sensitive skin and gentle enough for babies!

Lavender is one of the main ingredients in my Healing Balm because it’s a great natural first aid antiseptic treatment. Everything from minor cuts, burns, bites, and bumps to more major skin ailments like eczema and psoriasis can be treated with lavender, as it reduces inflammation and redness while preventing bacteria growth.

It’s also in my facial skincare line (cleanser, toner, and moisturizer) as it helps fight acne and reduce spots and scars. Antimicrobial, antioxidant, and astringent all-in-one.

Not only is lavender good for the body, it’s good for the mind too—that delicately sweet smell is more powerful than you think. Your mental health can improve remarkably if you try using lavender to treat anxiety, depression, insomnia, restlessness, and tension. It’s incredibly balancing and relaxing, and a safe natural option to calm and sedate the mind.

I love using lavender essential oil in my diffuser while unwinding with a good book and a cup of tea. Or for those nights that I just can’t put my mind at ease, I’ll put a few drops on a cotton pad and tuck it into my pillowcase. I sleep like a baby every time!

My baby bath-time regime features lavender to get your little one clean, calm, and ready for bed. A bath with the Baby Wash or Tub Tea followed by a fresh diaper change with our protective Diaper Balm will help them drift soundly off to sleep. Let this be your new bedtime ritual for both baby and mama, as all the lovely lavender scents will put your mind at ease so you can get some much needed (and deserved!) rest.
